The layers formed as oxidation products on the metal surface during rolling at high temperature are called rolling scale. The rolling scale formed on the surface of slab, ingot and billet in continuous casting or rolling mill due to high temperature (1100-1300°C) and oxidizing environment is cleaned from the surface with high pressure water.
